DEAR CHEERING JAKE SHEARS ON HEELS

We went to North London, at the Electric Ballroom, last weekend to enjoy the wonderful Jake Shears on stage and on heels. Here’s our Live Report.

For our very first time at the Electric Ballroom, at the heart of Camden, we choose a show full of kindness and glitter with Jake Shears. Loving his work with Scissor Sisters as much as his debut solo album, we didn’t need another argument to run there. And what a great idea we had!

The atmosphere is clubbing with a DJ set as a waiting playlist that goes between disco and rave and an opening by the crazy happy Crush Club, a nice new act for us that gets everyone started with a wide dancing positive energy.

Jake Shears arrives next on his high black platforms heels, wearing a black and gold jacket matching his golden cap. And it was only the first out of three outfits he showed us. Simple and yet like out of a cabaret, he worked them all. Red gloves, feather boa, cape and top-hat with feathers, all beautiful! His music has the same spirit, though. We just have to follow him there.

And that’s actually quite easy as he delivers his amazing solo songs like Good Friends for his introduction, Big Bushy Moustache (that he doesn’t have on his face anymore), Everything I’ll Ever Need, Sad Song Backwards and, of course as the final dot to the show, the delicious and provocative Creep City. But Jake Shears doesn’t stop there and delivers some hits from Scissor Sisters: Laura, Paul McCartney, Take Your Mama, Comfortably Numb, and mostly, the flamboyant I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’.

The result is that, even with a short length gig, Shears has met our expectations created by his studio energy and his reputation. His talent, his moves, his kindness are all magnificently canalized by his music and it is hard not to smile as we look at him having so much fun on the small stage of the mythical club of Camden.
