FLASH: THEO HAKOLA / LES AMAZONES D’AFRIQUE / GARI GRÈU

Let’s dive into new albums with two premieres and last week release. Fresh and new tunes only. Flashes.

WATER IS WET – THEO HAKOLA

With his stunning and sharp voice and riffs, Theo Hakola gives to Water is Wet magnificent depths that makes us curious. Somewhere between leather and rocks, smells between coffee and whiskey, and with its long, dark and mysterious shape, Hakola’s music has everything of a classic Hollywood feature without its clichés. We grab it as it is, crude and generous, and we enjoy tracks from Who The Hell? to 1963 and Bury Me Standing.

AMAZONES POWER – LES AMAZONES D’AFRIQUE

The diversity of Africans cultures are bared by the feminine voices of Amazones of Africa (Les Amazones d’Afrique). It hits something right. Dialects, English and French languages are together in a rich mix of tradition and electro music. Power, the last track of the album of the same name, is a powerful pacifist and feminist hymn where all colours are represented. We all relate. Their stories resonate with great humility and our curiosity expands more. Unmissable.

BARKA – GARI GRÈU

Here’s some French variety that has everything to please lovers of poetry, soft politics, self-esteem and quiet. With features of La Rue Kétanou on Les retrouvailles and of Guizmo, from Tryo, on Stop Net, we are sure of it, Gari Grèu got some of the best in the business and becomes the heir of those with their heads in the clouds and feet on the ground. Kind and inspired, there are as many words as there are visions of life (Yes papillon, Barka). To discover now.
