FLASH : MOTO / DENYS & THE ROSES / ORSON & THE ROSEBUDS

We’re back again for this New Music Friday, with a beautiful selection of three freshly released albums for the past-present-and-future fans’ greatest pleasure. Flashes.

CHANSONS GRUNGE – MOTO

With her new project, Félicie Moreau is Moto. The musician from Dijon, France, proposes an EP with a very fitting title: Chansons Grunge, meaning Grunge Songs. And that’s what these tracks, whether personal, tender or loving (Zoltar, L’eau municipale with Michelle Blades), or sharp, stubborn and made of good rock riffs (Danser m’épuise, Pharaon), have all in common. They’re deeply grunge. Moto does what she wants when and how she wants, playing with her own vulnerability and humour like she does her guitar. Result: she’s getting some welcomed fresh air on French grunge rock.

THAT IS STRANGE – DENYS & THE ROSES

This is a well-produced debut EP that Denys & The Roses have just released. With That Is Strange, we first thought we walked into a sort of fog that slowly dissolved to let appear a rather optimistic landscape. What made us follow them without thinking it’s the charming vocals that are accompanied by a round bass, sharp guitars, and various inspirations, from funk to blues. The whole this is full of modernity. Through the chaotic Breakfast at Midnight, we’re having a glimpse of their power potential which resonate on the following track, Burn It All. The rest should be history.

WHEN UP IS DOWN – ORSON & THE ROSEBUDS

We’re often get up too late to say we got up early… and the track Little Late for Early is an excellent musical translation of this feeling that can pop in other various situations and events. The introduction to this new album, When Up Is Down, is of the type to get stuck in our heads after only a couple of listenings. And then, we’re captivated by the colourful Eleanora May as much as by the electric Books Without Authors (Babble On). In a couple of tracks, Orson & The Rosebuds has us hooked to their strong and laid back album.
