FLASH : ELECTRIC HIGH / KINGS OF LEON / DA CAPO

After a couple of Thursdays where we took a well-deserved break, we’re back again with our traditional catching-up session with three albums and EPs that almost slipped under the radar. Flashes.

GO EASY ON MY HEART – ELECTRIC HIGH

Here’s a small electric kick that pleases us. Coming from Norway, the band Electric High has released their new EP, Go Easy On My Heart, earlier this year, and with loads of amps and distortion, we must admit that we’ve got into the universe they’re sharing. Waiting with a Gun is marked by solos, heavy with effects, in perfect contrast with the tearing and screaming vocals that are jumping on us. Sleeping with the Enemy is probably our favourite on this short record. The band is, indeed, electrifying, and now we need to hear more from them.

WHEN YOU SEE YOURSELF – KINGS OF LEON

It’s the type of album that we listen to in the middle of the afternoon, lost on a country road, without knowing if we’ll be late or not… and, honestly, we don’t even know what late means. The great tranquillity that emanates from When You See Yourself allows us to take our time, and tracks like A Wave or Supermarket, invite us to do this daily. Kings Of Leon are still leaving a well-thought and beautiful melancholic fog upon this new opus released in early March. With its ‘old school rock’ vibes and its folk touches, the new record by the Followill family sums up a nice yet a bit dim spring.

PARADISE – DA CAPO

It’s at the end of winter that Paradise, Da Capo’s new album, has been released, and we must say that the general atmosphere clearly wears traces of it, with bright white snow (Too Late), a freezing wind (Mistress), and some short sunny moments surrounded by clouds (Horn’s Lament). Delicate, balanced with the piano underlining the almost-epic backing vocals, the gripping violins, and the discreet yet on the forefront guitars, this album doesn’t look or sound like any other paradise. A bit sad in its core, soul and depth, it’s an opus that needs to be taken slowly, with a hot tea preferably.
