We’re going back to feminines vocals with these three unmissable, raging, sometimes sombre, and mainly passionate records. Flashes.
MOOD DISORDERS – NOBODY’S CULT
Mood Disorders, a debut album by French band Nobody’s Cult, should get its rightful spot on the international rock scene. At least, thanks to The Finish Line, Goodbye Honey, Nothing on Me and Hangover, it certainly owned its spot within our collection. The raging vocals and energy coming from lead singer Lena Woods are equally impressive as the band’s ability to go from punk and stoner to soft piano ballads. What’s even more impressive is Woods’ electric harp, beautifully supported by the classic combo guitar/bass/drums. The band signs here a fascinating and electric record.

NO GODS NO MASTERS – GARBAGE
With its two parts for just above an hour and twenty minutes of recording, we can say that No Gods No Masters is a long one. A very long one. Of course, a part of it is made of covers (mostly cool ones, with a great production like Because the Night featuring the Screaming Females, or Starman), but the rest of it is all, well, Garbage in a way. Sombre, politic, deeply angry sometimes, we’re going through a large range of emotions as we listen to it. Uncomfortably Me is a good example of this. If some tracks are still heavy with the band’s electro influences, we’re enjoying the rocking one most like The Men Who Rule The World, The Creeps and No Gods No Masters.

ANCIENT DREAMS IN A MODERN LAND – MARINA
Two atmospheres are connecting here naturally and with ease in Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land, Marina’s new record. Deeply feminist, open-minded, pushing forward difference, acceptance and the power of nature on man, Marina is hitting these sensitive cords brilliantly. With nostalgic disco and powerful lyrically rock-infused lines of pop, the genres mix is successful. We’re adoring Venus Fly Trap, Purge The Poison, and Man’s World as much as we do Highly Emotional People, Flowers and Pandora’s Box. It’s a 10/10 from start to finish with the themes, the musical balance and the potential it has for the dancefloor. An unmissable record this year.
