Songs For A Sane Society by Bones In Butter is utterly satisfying in both compositions and productions. A genre-less gem in review now.
SONGS FOR A SANE SOCIETY – BONES IN BUTTER
A Dystopian Love Song is a bright moment, with a dash of dread that grows to eat the sweet bubble formed by the melody. I find a similar idea in the more classical instants of Never Without You and Sad Girl. This is Not What You Promised Us gets vindicative, an open critic, matching the nagging tone taken by guitars and basses. Turning towards post-punk, Stop Dancing Now! is also a fascinating spiral with a biting attitude.
In its sinister (Her Cave) or luminous (Scenes From The Metro) notes, the album fuses one into the other with disconcerting ease. And that, even in its bonus tracks with a stronger folk mark. Ironically, there can’t be hope if the world is already sane. Bones in Butter proposes exactly that with Songs For A Sane Society. It’s an aspiration to a better world, despite the hints of it already being a lost cause. The balance is mad, delicate, without a specific genre, and here, it really hits the mark.
