To continue their conquest of Europe, Meltheads have released their debut album, Decent Sex. Review with some heavy riffs inside.
DECENT SEX – MELTHEADS
Guitars are melting, vocals are saturated and torn, broken. Meltheads are not made to be gentle and delicate, yet there is a significant part of fineness and vulnerability in their souls on Decent Sex. So, yes, of course, it’s about sex. And sometimes it’s pretty crude (Decent Sex, Night Gym). But its poetry (yup) slides in the lyrics as much as crazy and outrageous textures in its sounds. Hyper-effective riffs are the main base for their experiments. And of course, it’s easy to consume. An obsession? Vegan Leather Boots and its seemly endless loop, incredible and chaotic.
Another track imposes itself as a potential new favourite for anyone who enjoys this genre (and I include myself here): I Want It All. Indeed, it’s cleaner than the previous track, I Want It All still has some beautiful rock-garage waves that remind me of the greatest bands. Textures are well-defined, vocals get clearer and playful, to me it smells like a hit. The feeling lingers with the freaky intro of White Lies. Saturation goes up a notch. Pressure, too. Theodore is the logical follow-up, with its deep alarm sound.
In the hyper-catchy tracks there’s also No One Is Innocent – hyper-catchy, yes, but also thrilling. The riffs are palpitating. Arbeit and Gear keep the punk spirit with which Meltheads has started to charm the whole of Europe. It’s lively and unapologetic. Then Screwdrivers is losing its mind, getting into pop and folk beats, adding a nice old-school glam piano to it. And it works. It is in opposition with what Meltheads has done so far on Decent Sex, and it actually makes sense. Because they do whatever they want. One last proof? Melvin and its hardcore screaming. Mad, the Belgian band can’t be missed!
