PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #18

The playlist of the week has some panache, and comes in just in time for our three-day weekend! And there are a lot of new artists to enjoy here!

I simply can’t resist a strong starter for the playlist of the week, and here it’s Rosie by No Money Kids. It is also impossible for me to stay calm in front of that solo and nonchalance. It’s an immediate favourite and it gives the tone for the rest of the playlist: I want panache. And some cool bass lines too, as Jesse Bell shows on Going Down. Floodhounds keeps it up with their brand new single, Near-Life Experience, and its hard-rock inclination. In the same genre, with a dash of metal even, Obsession by Newcastle band Electric Circus comes up next. And it’s brilliant!

The plot thickens with the Bucharest-based masked trio Claro Que No, and it’s a new favourite for me: Parasite. Heavy riffs and clear backing vocals are forming a real banger. With some blues undertones The Wolf, by The Peawees, is also very convincing with its catchy riffs and chorus. Tatao takes over with a dash of vintage in his punk garage, for the political Mr.Paddy, and it works wonderfully. Speaking of wonders, the effects used by The Melonbars are exactly that on Anti-Ultra. It’s a very satisfying balance between blues and modern rock.

Let’s lower the adrenaline level without crashing, with some more tracks, barely calmer and full of the panache I am constantly after. It starts with Like a Wave, by Tomoka, and its layers of hypnotic effects are as efficient as the waves he sings about. Then ALI summons more vaporous spirits with the beautiful The List. With his head in the clouds, RoyBox comes up next with Bell, a warm and promising indie rock. Lastly, I close the playlist this week with Stole My Ace by Club Lotus, and their bright and sweet rock track. I wanted some panache, there it is.
