PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #23

After a week off, most welcome and necessary, I am back with the playlist of the week! There, you’ll find emotions, heavy riffs, summer brightness, introspective thoughts, and more!

Dare to get on the wrong side of Amyl & the Sniffers by telling them what they should or shouldn’t do, and… It’s with a strong bite that the band led by the fiery Amy Taylor is answering, through U Should Not Be Doing That. Gabrielle Ornate follows with the as efficient Nine Lives, her new single, absolutely dazzling! The dark riffs of Swedish band Zebra Crossing keep a similar feel, and with such vocals, it’s impossible to resist to their Call Girl. Up next is Modern Moxie, and questions about fleeting beauty, on Don’t Look at Me. Melancholic yet with a great attack, I adored its defying spirit!

Alex Sandra also has many questions in her head. Self-confidence and imposter syndrome are at the heart of Imposter, surrounded by well-thought-of pop-punk riffs! In a softer manner, with a summery groove, the hushed vocals of Emilíana Torrini announce her come-back with the intoxicating Black Lion Lane. Unmissable! Next is Mélys and her charming Josephine, sublime, lyrical and with a touch of restrained electricity. Marwane au Nord-Est is the perfect follow-up to it, with his new track Marionnette misanthrope. Beautifully written and deeply moving, this sombre song also holds an epic and gripping je ne sais quoi that captivated me.

Also bearing a sombre and hypnotic core, od terms reveal the powerful Running out of time and their unforgettable vocals. Now, to shake things and genres up, Love Ghost comes back along with Monde for Scream, a new single with a hardcore, strong and cathartic feel! The Sakawa Boys then propose a solid, classic tune, with Berlin and its ultra-catchy chorus. Last, but not least, let’s end with KEO’s softer tones of his ethereal single Fly With Me. It’s a delicate instant that closes the playlist this week with a bright and hopeful light!
