After a week of incredibly tense politics in France and the UK, we needed a vibrating playlist that could also bring a bit of sunshine. Let’s go!
Bye-bye Tories! The Labour Party won. It’s far from perfect but it’s a start. By releasing her new single today, Issy Sutcliffe keeps an eye open for what’s to come as she celebrates with The Cost Of Living, a catchy punk rock tune with wonderful textures. It’s the general idea for this week’s playlist. Up next is KB & The Raskals with the mysterious Doubt which also matches perfectly with the current mood. And they do so with great riffs and vocals! With a more aggressive energy, let’s listen to Bruvvy with Concealer. It talks about standards, treason, violence and concealing bruises. The track has a great bite and pairs up well with Toy by Pythies, coming up next. With deep guitars and a demanding rock vibe, the band addresses being objectified and refuse it. What a bunch!
And it doesn’t stop there! It does take a different aspect though, as Sister Ghost’s rock is gripping but a tad more tender. Dark Matter is completely fascinating and announces a promising debut album for the artist. Just behind it comes up the dark universe of SugarFüt with Thorn. It smells like warm riffs in a festival and a need for passion to our tense social climate. Really, it works! And JD McPherson’s blues has a great proposition too, with the very appealing Sunshine Getaway. Slowly, the summery vibes we’re after show up and let us relax. With that idea in mind, although still a bit pop-punk, Sierra Levesque serves a pretty catchy U ARE MY DRUG.
Kait Warner follows with Rodeo Clown, full of great textures too and in a raw style that I really enjoy. It’s followed by electric pop lines of Things Like U by FOZE, also touching on matters of the heart. Together, they push the focus on personal matters and it’s highly relatable. With more pop and summer in, the story of Betty and Steve, by Ubiquity Machine, is not as romantic as it seems at first. And to close this playlist of the week, emotionally challenging, Peter Alexander Jobson proposes a track both epic and sober. Burn The Ration Books of Love is made of a rare energy, and it ought not to be missed.
