FLASH: WEEPER – WEEPER

Going back to my liked tracks list, I recently rediscovered Weeper, a lovely debut album by Buenos Aires-based band Weeper. Review.

WEEPER – WEEPER

For Weeper, it all started with three friends, two Argentinians and one American, sharing the same deep love for folk music. And, in November 2023, after a couple of EPs, the project gave birth to their first album, Weeper. In it, the band sings both in English and Spanish, sometimes both in the same track. Its overall atmosphere is calm, warm, easy to access and incredibly soft. It’s a summery ray of sunshine from the South Hemisphere which never hides its vulnerability and tears.

The album begins with the nostalgic Vipassana, a beautiful opening made to acknowledge and understand the tranquil, tender and clear sonic ideas of the band. They resonate within Takes Time, although, this one feels more upbeat. Touches of modern urban pop create the surprise on Hard Friend, and the trio’s range becomes more intriguing. If Of Least Resistance possesses a chill atmosphere, Cagona dares tickle the band’s rock side with saturated riffs. It’s the track that worked most for me, as it encapsulates what the band’s capable of without fraying too far from the record’s overall aesthetics.

Whether through the intoxicating Ghostknife or pop-rock Autopilot, Weeper continues to earn its place in my playlists. It’s consistent, honest and passionate. Each note can prove it. Tendinitis keeps playing with a few effects on the guitars and ethereal vocals before the album comes to an end with De Algo Hay Que Morirse. Peaceful and charming, it’s everything I needed to get me even more curious about their next releases. So, let’s keep an eye on them!
