PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #40

It’s Friday! Which means, it’s time for the playlist of the week, to get your head spinning before the weekend. Let’s go!

After a banging album released in January, SPRINTS is back with something new – Feast. They’re spoiling us with their sharp textures. Let’s keep a similar tone with Treat Me Like Dirt by Stone Deaf, a little less saturated but just as effective. Stoner turns into blues, and the sky remains painted red. Next up, Story of the Man is shaking up the walls, courtesy of the incredible No Money Kids. The atmosphere stays in the red hues with Ria Rua’s latest single. Over heavy riffs and amidst menacing verses, she demands: Don’t Kill My Vibe. A cocktail of explosive tracks – my ideal way to start the playlist this week.

From red, we slide into gold and pink for a lighter tone. Gaby Duboisjoli shows this with her latest single, through her pop-electro cabaret sound, Come With Me. It sparkles and connects well with AZRA’s pop-punk and catchy if it wasn’t for you. While the form is different and darker, there’s something similar in Freya Beer’s track, False Hope. It’s warm and cold at the same time. This mood also bleeds into Nina Attal’s guitar, who, along with enchanting us with her voice, mesmerises with her guitar on Backdoor. Sublime!

The tension slowly rises again. Slummy, a fictional band created by Joshua Mohr for his upcoming book, is truly effective with Size Queens. Following that, The Chuck reveals itself with Mind Over Matter – relatively motivating and with a little ‘je ne sais quoi’ distinctly summery in its attitude. It rains in summer with Shelter by Claro Que No. Clear and grounded, it leaves room for hope despite the storm. Finally, to close this week’s playlist, we discover the warm pop-rock sound of Bon Enfant. Thanks to their riffs and synths on Demande spéciale, it’s impossible not to dance along with the band!
