It’s time to dive into Afternoon in the Park’s EP ON/OFF, a little gem with a French-British rock sound. Review.
ON/OFF – AFTERNOON IN THE PARK
The band has a plan… a Masterplan. That’s the opening track, and with its vintage aesthetic, saturated riffs, ultra-catchy chorus, solid groove, and distinctive voice, it really hooks you in. I’m there and ready for what’s next, certain it won’t disappoint – and it doesn’t. I Wonder delves into love so beautiful it feels unreal. Even catchier, Destination sends us straight to the dancefloor without warning, and once again, we get carried away despite the anxiety in the lyrics. It’s undoubtedly the most intense track on the EP, hinting at an explosive energy when played live.
Things then mellow out with the romantic I Only Wanna Be With You, radiating holiday vibes and sunshine, before Afternoon in the Park closes ON/OFF with the fiery Now or Never. If Destination was lyrically intense, this one is motivating, direct, electric, and just as bursting with energy. Revitalising rock in France with such a vintage sound is a bold move. But Afternoon in the Park’s skill and spirit prove that it’s possible. And they do it with flair, confidence, and a refreshing edge! Their producer, Gordon Raphaël hasn’t lost his touch… Definitely a band to keep an eye on!
