I PLEAD INSANITY – UNPOLISHED*

I Plead Insanity by the Californian band unpolished* is a well-rounded, curious EP rich of many, many rock influences. The quartet delivers effective melodies and a rebellious spirit combined with female rage. First, they bite and kick off with the sharp banger copy/paste. Their annoyance resonates not only in the tone of the melody but also in the vibrant energy of the track, targeting an internal battle against ego and frustrations. Hyper-effective, it’s a powerful introduction—saturated, grunge, and brutal—that only shows a small part of what the band is capable of. Indeed, they aren’t afraid to get more pop with the catchy melody of hollybaby. Here, unpolished* blends two atmospheres with perfect balance: a bright optimism and a pre-emptive nostalgia. It’s the ideal soundtrack for reflecting on the joys and pains of being in your twenties.

However, where the band truly shines is when they let their attitude take the lead. This is the case with nobody knows, full of bite and vengeance, both in the lyrics and in the riffs, which add a modern twist to a classic drive. The tempo and energy make it an absolute must-listen in the genre! They follow up with something more political: i swore an oath to protect the constitution. Here, while the vocals could benefit from being a bit more distinct, the guitar is hypnotic, the energy remains high, and the whole track perfectly conveys their desire to change things.

More personal, unpolished* continues with a mood of vendetta on the powerful sucker. Again, it’s incredibly effective, infused with several rock styles that strike a beautiful balance, and it’s clearly promising. To close out their first EP, I Plead Insanity, unpolished* brings together their seriousness and intense energy, and delivers a standout track: ghost. Consent, manipulation, and clear boundaries are at the heart of this banger, with a memorable melody and catchy riffs. The whole EP is extremely convincing thanks to a clear sincerity and passion in both the themes and the form. Can’t wait for what’s next for them!
