Energy morphing into emotion, it’s what’s behind each riff of each track of our playlist of the week. Let’s do this!
Delilah Bon didn’t ask to be saved by Prince Charming. And she makes things clear through her new single, ideal to open this playlist of the week, the biting alt rap punk PRINCELESS PRINCESS. Like often with her, I am so here for it! Blending genres is also something Woodship enjoys. The band logically propose an anthemic rock marked by strong electro layers and anti-fascist politics with Simplicity, and it’s a huge banger! Then, Goodnight Sunrise get us to flip the bird to the world again with their explosive alt-pop-punk tune Get A Life. The Toronto-based duo reveals how strong they can come on stage, and it’s incredibly addictive! DR DR is not left behind with a rock sound that leaves stains all around. The depth of the riffs on their new track Vultures might be responsible for it.
We take a small detour via even harder sounds with Say Something by TOY PARLOUR. Sharp verses, epic choruses, and screaming guitars are all the necessary ingredients to their gripping cocktail. Anteater by The Family Battenberg follows with at least as much energy, a lot of saturation, but a more mysterious atmosphere, almost diving into psych rock sometimes. With hints of post-punk and post-desert, we then discover Post Post with their thirsty song All I need is blood. It’s more cinematic but as electric as the rest, and the song is promising! The Turbulents bring in a nice dose of melancholia as they tell the story of First Date. Pop melody, pop-punk chorus, classic rock solo, it’s emotional and has a nice balance overall!
The playlist of the week slowly slides into softer and poppier tracks for its last bit. Abbey Moon is easy to place here with their brilliant and clear Way To Go. The energy is still high and pretty catchy. A great made-in-London sound! Romain Podeur can say the same thing as he blends French and British rock with his excellent track Mon Himalaya. It’s fresh, vivid and really Brit-rock!
Melancholy comes back, within a dream invoked by Yuna Hawks’ splendid vocals. When she sings White Shadows, she immerses us into an unknown yet reassuring world, and it’s divine! It’s quite similar to the feeling we get from Circle The Earth’s lead vocalist, Aviva Scott, on Sweet Anxiety. There, she hypnotises us, talks about her anxiety, ours, and we feel seen, supported. She does all this with her wonderful bandmates and some sublime orchestral additions. It’s the perfect way to close the playlist of the week!
