FLASH : BECKY BOWE / MERRY CHRISTMAS / REWS

Three very different universes but all very enjoyable are to be discovered through our three flashes reviews. And if the temperature is rising, don’t forget to drink water whilst listening to them all.

COSMIC HEART – BECKY BOWE

Through her new EP, Cosmic Heart, Becky Bowe unveils all of her generosity with indubitable talent. The voice’s strong, the notes held and the emotions are powerful. The main track is giving its name to this small opus. Cosmic Heart is shining and makes us shiver. In an R’n’B soul genre, sprinkled with pop, the songstress gives everything she’s got on her heart and we spend a really good time with her. The only downside we can find is that it’s way too short. We need more!

THE NIGHT THE NIGHT FELL – MERRY CHRISTMAS

Yes, we’re in August and yet it’s the perfect time to celebrate and discover Merry Christmas. With their new album The Night The Night Fell, the Japan/UK band is getting us into a strange new world. Between their dissonant singing, sometimes disharmonised, they are building something touching and enjoyable. Their mathy folk, because that’s what we’re getting into, has a dose of ingenuity that makes us travel into our feelings. Like fresh acid drops, we get into the counterpoints and surprises with a smile. Our favourite? Shapes Appearing.

WARRIORS – REWS

A kick in the throat… but with kindness. That’s the effect Rews’ new album has on us. Warriors is made of potentially explosive power, some high spirits, self-confidence and mesmerising riffs. Things that we love and that really speak to us. It’s a flawless musical performance that gives a lot of hope too. Either with Birdsong or Monsters, the fighting spirit of Rews is infectious and are among those rock albums raising the bar higher. Within just over a half-hour, the band from Bristol gets the lead and becomes a must-have in our repertoire.
