FLASH : ANIMAL TRISTE / MAUD LÜBECK / SHAYLA MCDANIEL

To soothe both spirit and body, we have everything we need this week thanks to three beautiful albums. It’s time for us to take care of ourselves with mystical songs, a tragic story, and self-love. Flashes.

NIGHT OF THE LOVING DEAD – ANIMAL TRISTE

It’s another type of world, a moment out of time. Night of the Loving Dead, Animal Triste’s new album, brings some contemplative instants to our ears, like the superb Animal Years and the delicate Diamond Dreams. But these dreamy tracks are only so strong because of the contrast they get from earth-shattering songs like Mary, Full of Grace. We’re feeling all the goosebumps when listening to the diabolical E.V.I.L, our favourite of the opus. Spiritual and mischievous, Animal Triste has hypnotized us with this new album that we highly recommend.

1988, CHRONIQUES D’UN ADIEU – MAUD LÜBECK

This record is moving every inch of our soul. Maud Lübeck releases a peculiar LP, deep grief going through it, a brutal wound. This cruel story, she sings it with sobriety, reservation, and yet, each murmur is echoing in the room. It’s a novel, a dramatic film that unfolds in front of us, strong, deeply melancholic, and intense. There’s something intimate in the composition that unsettles us and brings its unicity forward. With sounds that bring back the year 88, we feel close to the main character when she says Non, asks Pourquoi and Était-ce toi ?, as she goes through the difficult task of saying goodbye.

TAKE CARE – SHAYLA MCDANIEL

The tone is light, playful, and Shayla McDaniel is offering a debut album filled with charm, love, energy, and passion: Take Care. It’s coming from Knoxville, Tennessee, and finds similar situations and vibes in the streets of London, in our living room, and elsewhere as long as we listen to it. The vocals are assured and warm whilst the genres are mixing blues, soul, and rock with ease. Catchy, this is an album that wakes something precious: motivation. It’s a real treat to discover an artist like McDaniel with her beautiful track What I Need, Flavor, and Better Days. She’s inspiring.
