A two-sides coming from the ether, that’s what proposes Polyvoda with Homeless. The Ukrainian band is a precious discovery. Review.
HOMELESS – POLYVODA
Formed in 2022, with Kirill Chykhradwe on the keyboard, Denys Levchenko on the bass, Mikhail Birchenko on the drums, and a mysterious anonymous feminine voice, the band released these two tracks at the end of 2023. The rapper brings some sublime echoes to Homeless. As for the drums, they captivate me as much as the round, soft, and tender keyboard, from the hushed intro the band offers. The vocals step forward with real determination, in a precise flow and some gentle harmonies. If the genre is hard to set, and that’s why this dark track is so fascinating to me.
And the smart balance of this mixed-genre formula continues on Bonfire. The intro is as hypnotic as the first one, but it’s its catchy chorus that really makes the difference. Dazzlingly bright, it’s the perfect contrast with the down-to-earth verses. It’s epic yet calm, funk and rock, soul and rap… Technically spotless, with intricate production, mixed genres, and unique vocals… clearly the band will be back on the blog. And that’s because Homeless and Bonfire are a fantastic way to discover what Polyvoda has to offer.
