BONJOUR is the first thing band from Québec, DVTR, says. It’s the name of their first EP, and it’s mad as hell. Review of this punk gem.
BONJOUR – DVTR
First, the duet presents itself with the bpm of a tachycardic anxious bunny. With deformed vocals, riffs every which way, and lyrics for which the duet, made of Jean Divorce and Demi Lune (half-moon), will not apologize… that’s DVTR, the track, and the band. It’s showing off a banger, and won’t say sorry – not that I want them to, nor that they need to. With Vasectomia, DVTR announces the end of patriarchy and proposes vasectomy for everybody. The ultra-feminist and super-saturated, the track is a future classic with a hyper-effective chorus. It’s impossible to forget about it even hours later.
Then, a crematorium is a pretty serious, (ironically) cold, and sad place. Well, that’s pretty much what we make of it. Turns out that DVTR decides to create a brawling punk groovy hit, Crématorium. Yeah, it sure sounds like a massive contradiction, but truly, it works. Is it where the tachycardia stops? Not really, no. The duet goes onto crude, provocative, fun, whispering, sexy, sinister, curious, shady cash and moshpits: Sound $ex Change and Anu Cuni are, however, not that sick. It only depends on what you put behind that word. The former sets the scene by taking its time, and the latter is a flash in the dark, almost too fast.
Finally, Rhum CodeMD sends me over the ropes, one last time. But that was expected, as the band’s furiously crazy punk got me K.O. on the first listen. Jean Divorce and Demi Lune just had a fucking brilliant idea here, and in French, please. Demanding, always, they question our comfort, get into conversations about booze and sex… and it’s a promise for what’s next. DVTR is wild, unhinged, punching a pack, and all this with a simple BONJOUR. Unmissable.
