Sometimes, you need to start the week gently. Cascades at Play by Bristler is the album you’re looking for to do it. Review.
CASCADES AT PLAY – BRISTLER
After the first trials, adding a dash of electro to the vocals, Counterclockwise turns the experiments on the guitars. It’s special and spicy. It’s immediately magic. A phenomenon also noticeable in Skipping Rocks and its jazz-electro combo. Borrowing to all these overall big genres, Bristler built themselves in a vast and emotionally impactful universe. For Tiny Little Pieces, the experimental bits might even be clearer. You can’t doubt the intro. Here, I am fully transported by the vocals’ soothing and deep textures.
But labels, that’s not what Bristler are after. The band keeps some strong rock influences that are seen in the guitars of Bank Robber. At the same time, they are moving with a free spirit and the song goes from classic riffs to saturated notes that remind me of 8-bits and gaming music. I love it. Harmonious but different, Lowlife and Test Your Water close this record with the same determination to try new things. Clear guitars, flexible drums, round basses… the balance is great because of the trio’s obvious alchemy. Rudy Meier, Dana Yurcisin and Biff Swenson are Bristler and Cascades at Play is their debut album. Don’t miss it, it’s a dream.
