PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #16

The playlist of the week starts with a typhoon of riffs before sliding into a softer feeling, ideal for the weekend. Let’s jump in!

It’s impossible to keep calm when this kind of song appears. I fell hard for Stop Calling, an immense banger by Queen Cult, with its confident riffs and attitude. Powerful, the message is clear: the band will call, don’t call them. With a matching energy, although less aggressive, slumclub with their catchy Pinky, is a great one to get into. The mosh-pit machine doesn’t stop yet. Because I love starting my playlist with some power, it’s now up to Griefcat to show off. Here, they ask what’s your Carbon Footprint to anyone they meet. Fair enough, and the activist track has a great sense of humour too, on punk riffs it’s a wonder. Punk rock is still on with PET NEEDS and their super catchy Trip, from their latest album, Intermittent Fast Living.

Now, it is Little Hand Feet’s turn to give us some great chords with Better, How? It’s a track to keep close to your heart, as its upbeat tone lets shine heartache in its lyrics. Then, with echoes coming from pop, Poster Boy by Rise Bailey Rise hits the spot, following the same kind of contrasted vibes. Dashes hard-rock invite themselves on Fake It by The Exchange Project, as motivating as ever, and later on Alright by Crawling Crows, which should get the crowds to go wild live.

That’s when we’re reaching the last part of the playlist, revealing worries and strong feelings, trying to soothe them. It’s coming in the tenderly epic Hopeless by A Short Walk to Pluto. Its bass lines are incredibly efficient, and something gentle starts to glimmer in the chords. The Nobodies are adding more of that in their guitars and delicate vocals on I’m Fine, I Swear, pushing up the volume at times for an intense feeling. Sorry, by Paper Ashtray keeps a similar texture but softens even more, highlighting experiments and sublime vocals. Lastly, Anxiety, the first track by French band DISLIMN, walks on the same path. It’s quite an impressive one, and it’s the one that beautifully closes the playlist this week.
