The 27th of April, The Warning closed their European and UK tour with a bang at the Forum Theatre in London. Throwback to a simple but damn efficient evening.
After a tour opening for Muse last year, the three sisters of The Warning keep convincing their British audience. For the last date of their sold-out headlining tour, they have invaded the Forum Kentish Town, and what’s certain is that it’s not the last time they’ll set fire to the English capital. I was expecting them. They did not disappoint.
In the common yet always stunning Art Déco style, the public rushes in after a long queue under the rain. And despite the weather, everybody is pretty excited to be here. Metalheads and fans of a more “moderate” rock are here, agreeing on one thing: The Warning’s incandescent energy is a welcome breath of fresh air on rock music.
GIRL POWER
Before the three sisters attack London with their charisma, the 100% female American band Conquer Divide get their powerful and lyrical metalcore on stage. Their main strength comes from the contrast between Kia Castillo’s clean vocals and the impressive throat singing of their touring member Madison Spencer. It’s striking and brings some fantastic ideas to their metal aesthetic, charged with riffs and saturation. If it isn’t my favourite genre, I admit they have a great stage presence. Most of the audience is clearly head over heels for them, and mosh-pits are openings. A girl power hardcore with a lot to say, they’re an act to keep an eye on.
BANGERS INCOMING
For The Warning, the atmosphere shifts for something less contrasted and heavy but as powerful. They have a unique attitude and an uncommon willpower. And it shows from the get-go as they open with the expected and recent S!CK. This massive banger was released earlier this year and is already a hit amongst fans. The pressure goes up, and they don’t plan on letting it go down any time soon. The classic trio of bass-drums-guitars is going head first under a storm of attacking and gripping riffs and beats.
This is not the only track from their upcoming fourth album, Keep Me Fed, that they’re playing. With already five tracks out, the audience is already familiar with the band’s new banquet era. MORE, the first of the five to have been released, about a year ago, is making the crowd go wild. How can they not with such deep bass lines and unapologetic attitude? And it’s not the only one, as Hell You Call a Dream and Automatic Sun are growling with the same might. They carry on with more classics of their own like MONEY, CHOKE, EVOLVE, and ERROR, all coming from their 2022 record ERROR.
UNMISSABLE TORNADO
Now, why would they stop at English-speaking songs? After all, The Warning comes from Monterrey, Mexico, and they also write and sing in Spanish. Going forth, it gives birth to the memorable Qué Más Quieres, also extracted from their upcoming album, and it’s incredibly satisfying live. The audience happily follows the unforgettable chorus. They keep going during the encore with the classic and anthemic Narcisista, released in 2019 and MARTIRIO, released in 2022. It’s a bowl of fresh air and sparks the need for more.
Their set flows naturally, without much going on with the stage set. It’s minimalistic but does the job wonderfully, aided by the trio’s incredible stage presence. A touch more lighting effects on top could highlight their game a tad more, but it’s already more than enough given their riff power. Between Dany’s legendary guitar solos and intense vocals, and Ale’s efficient backing vocals and round bass riffs, Pau reveals an unmatched energy on the drums and vocals too.
It can be surprising but is always spotless and right. Her attitude and energy are nourishing her every move. And if all three are impressive, I admit I have been captivated by Pau the most with her simultaneous raw powerful singing and drumming. I knew, yet I was speechless. All three are also still pretty young and yet are already masters in their art. Don’t wait any longer and add them to your playlists.
MORE
As for seeing them live, you should. If this London date closed their European and UK tour, don’t fret. The Warning will be around the summer festivals and will finish the job of conquering Europe and the British Islands with their incredibly efficient hard rock. Jump in and see them on the first occasion you get, and keep an eye on the future. After all, The Warning has warned us.
