Bess Atwell explores her feelings and frees herself of some fears in the romantic Light Sleeper. Fans of folk-pop tunes, don’t miss it!
LIGHT SLEEPER – BESS ATWELL
She opens with clear notes on the loving Everyone Who’s Not In Love With You Is Wrong. With a multi-layered production, it quickly opens the door to the realm of dreams. Right behind it is Release Myself, and it flows, making the two of them inseparable, with some electro undertones and a chill rhythm. Because Bess Atwell’s feelings here are strong, and sometimes passionate, maintaining the tranquil and soft feeling through the record is a challenge. Which she brilliantly overcame. Sylvester comes up next, kind, Fan Favourite and Spinning Sun bring some warmth to it all, The Weeping and I Am Awake shimmer and let tears and pain come up.
My favourite here is still Something Now with its deep bass, memorable backing vocals, and its delicate progression. It’s all about the fact of feeling something, even a negative emotion, and therefore reaching a new point. With that theme in, it gets moving, carrying beautiful optimistic tones. Next, Crowds is a cinematographic and urban tune, perfect for slowing time down in crowded places. Lastly, Light Sleeper explores some surprising sounds, getting into electro-pop feels, and closing the album with unexpected yet promising ideas for the future. With Light Sleeper, Bess Atwell should mainly promise one thing: to keep going and explore her feelings and emotions without restraint. That’s how she makes them so dazzling.
Bess Atwell will tour the UK in October.
