The enigmatic artist J.MYSTERY is a real romantic revelation, and a strong new favourite of mine, with his new EP Live from Arda Recorders. Review.
LIVE FROM ARDA RECORDERS – J.MYSTERY
With such vocals, easily recognizable and with a unique texture, it’s hard not to grow attached to him. J.MYSTERY proposes three tracks on Live from Arda Recorders. Although short, this EP still becomes a favourite that manages to find an echo in all weather, under the sun or the raging rain or a chill night by the fireplace. The first notes of Breakdown merge modern R’n’B and Pop before getting some slightly rockier riffs on. It’s quite a different version from the original single which has more electronic layers to it. Both have a wonderful intensity, but this live version is particularly gripping as it lets the guitar take more space. Thus, the message, saying that breaking is okay, and sometimes even necessary, is enhanced.
Vulnerability is also a recurring theme for J.MYSTERY, and shows it as he carries on with Better Days, a hope anthem. Here again, the layers of electro are thinner, and the piano is clearer than the original. But mainly, it’s the vocals that bear the epic atmosphere and hugeness of the song throughout. Orchestral strings join in and give it some more depth, it’s moving. The chorus goes on, between hope and melancholia. This live version really elevates J.MYSTERY’s artistic potential.
For the third and last track, it’s the same story. What was round and smooth becomes a tad drier and yet keeps its moving feelings intact. It must be noted that even its original version is based on the sincere and delicate combo of vocals and piano. Everlasting Love is the artist’s most recent track, released in January 2024. Romantic, of course, it’s a superb song for both loving hearts and heartbroken folks. With these three songs on Live from Arda Recorders J.MYSTERY reveals more of himself thanks to moving lyrics and soothing and intricate lines. A wonder to discover now!
