For her sophomore album, 残夢(Zanmu), Ado collaborated with great people. It’ll give you whiplash, as she jumps genres as she pleases. Review.
残夢 (ZANMU) – ADO
For Dignity, Ado brings up a lyrical and passionate side, although more classical. Singing along with an orchestra, her vocals become epic, and stay clear, but almost too smooth. The next one could give you a whiplash with its impulsive warm electro ショコラカタブラ(Chocolat Cadabra), which is one of my unexpected favourites. It precedes the well-known クラクラ(Kura Kura), opening for the second season of Spy x Family, incredibly colourful and full of fun jazzy undertones. アタシは問題作(I’m a Controversy) goes into the most-catchy side of JPop with what seems to be a pretty dark theme. Up next is リベリオン(Rebellion), a pure banger thanks to its textures and bite that made Ado so successful, and which is also amongst my favourites.
オールナイトレディオ(All Night Radio) comes in contrast with another genre blend of memorable funk and summery jazz. However, it comes just before the more classical and polished 向日葵(Himawari) and 永遠のあくる日(Eien no Akuruhi). Charming with the modern MIRROR, Ado is also electric with ルル(Rule) and flamboyant with 唱(Show) – an unmissable to me. To keep us in that buzzing atmosphere, with some folk colours on top, she continues with いばら(Ibara), written by Vaundy – and it proves their collaboration always works beautifully. With the between-genres Value, Ado closes 残夢(Zanmu) with the explosive 0. If there are a lot of songs written by different Vocaloid artists, all of them are brilliantly interpreted by the young artist. And it’d be easy to imagine that her next tracks will be as unpredictable as ever.
Now Playing: ルル(Rule)
