ALBUM ONE: EVERYTHING THAT’S WRONG WITH ME – PRCHR.
Mental exhaustion sometimes (often) causes us to change our whole life. That’s how starts Album One: everything that’s wrong with me by prchr. with DOGHOUSE. A heartfelt conversation that ends with a slammed door and heavy riffs. The toxic traits of human beings have befriended the darkest phases of depression and anxiety. The result helps to let go. It’s oily, powerful, cathartic. The Australian artist keeps it going with the strong WHAT YOU THINK. His saturated modern rock is as brilliant as some of the biggest names of the genre. The energy is infectious, the lyrics are raw and the textures are crazy.
On 2nd, prchr. (pronounced percher), let’s despair take over. After all, it’s this first opus’ whole concept to see his darkest bits leading the way, and the result is as heartbreaking as it’s relatable. The angst is political too with FORGET ME NOT, and physical with RABBIT SEASON. The riffs are pouring with the same incredible intensity, cleverly translating his mental state. But even with a touch of hope, sometimes you hit rock bottom. And ROCK BOTTOM is indeed just that. However, it’s followed by I DON’T NEED U which brings something more definitive yet soft in its atmosphere.
On GHOST, the theme is still thrilling. Together, lyrics and familiarly textured riffs bring that cathartic energy front stage. CHICAGO is seen as a promised land, a life-saving exit. At last, with EVERYTHING THAT’S WRONG WITH ME, giving its name to Album One, prchr. lets the last notes be the heaviest. More emo, more tender, and incredibly saturated, it remains pretty raw. The record, which holds a great narrative, stays sombre and filled with dark thoughts, yet a glimmer of hope can be seen through it all. With such a debut, I am curious to hear more about prchr.’s project.
