Angry LGBTQIA+ feminists with a punk edge… Lambrini Girls deliver big time with their debut album Who Let The Dogs Out! Review.
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT – LAMBRINI GIRLS
The label could read, “Warning: this album is feminist and furious,” but that would be redundant alongside the incredible sound the duo brings to the table. Who Let The Dogs Out is the very first album from Lambrini Girls, already known for their insane singles and EPs. Some of those, like Company Culture, which calls out workplace sexual harassment, or Big Dick Energy, tackling the pervasive insecurity women face daily, make an appearance here. Yes, we’ve all clutched our keys between our fingers while walking briskly home at night. The police? They’re called out right from the opening track Bad Apple. Police brutality is tackled head-on with a distorted sound and biting flow that sets the tone for the entire album. With just these three tracks, Lambrini Girls come out swinging, and I’m all for it!
I’d almost be left breathless if not for those moments of agitated riffs breaking through the verses and choruses. Hypnotic and raw, they pair perfectly with the band’s tone and attitude. Yes, it’s incredibly cathartic for those who need to vent their anger over these issues. Lighter in tone, more queer, and still political, No Homo doesn’t pull its punches either. Every track here is charged with purpose. Nothing Tastes As Good As It Feels dismantles beauty standards and the health crises they create, while You’re Not From Around Here takes on gentrification with equal fervour – and it hits hard.
If there were any doubt about their perspective, the duo drops an interlude with an unambiguous title: Scarcity Is Fake (communist propaganda). Capitalism is the system – and they know it, loathe it, and take it down as fiercely as they skewer nepo babies in Filthy Rich Nepo Babies. Special Different is a heartfelt cry for neurodiversity. It’s deeply personal and moving. Similarly, Love dives into the violent, cruel side of love with emotional intensity. Finally, the playful Cuntology 101 champions feminist liberation, and I’m fully on board. Who Let The Dogs Out is an absolute triumph for Lambrini Girls! May the hype match the fury!
Catch them on tour in the UK, US and Europe this year.
