The explosive The Oral Cigarettes are back with AlterGeist0000, a powerful and generous new album! Review.
ALTERGEIST0000 – THE ORAL CIGARETTES
If The Oral Cigarettes had seen their sound evolve on their EP Marbles, it’s nothing compared to the bomb that is AlterGeist0000. This new album, released at the end of January, doesn’t just have bite—it sinks its teeth into the neck of its prey and never lets go. And I, easy prey drawn to good riffs, accept it without resistance. Bitch!! kicks off the string of bangers with its metal-infused sound that still keeps the melody alive. DIKIDANDAN summons mosh pits upon mosh pits, and the cult of The Oral Cigarettes continues to grow—just like its slick, polished music video. But the Nara-based band doesn’t stop there, teaming up with coldrain’s vocalist Masato for the unstoppable DUNK. Only three tracks in, and it’s already a flawless run with metal and hard rock vibes.
What follows brings contrast and variety. We shift into a mixture rock tune with BUG, which layers hypnotic and danceable electronic textures over deep, thundering riffs. Next comes a pop anthem with UNDER and OVER, an absolute earworm that’s impossible to shake off. It’s followed by the equally addictive OD, blending rap and pop. Two tracks that are hard to place elsewhere in the album, but they stand out—and are therefore must-listens! Yet, while they add variety, The Oral Cigarettes can’t help but return to a more brutal sound, this time collaborating with the flawless flow of rapper Kamui for ENEMY. Two duets, two bangers. And still a perfect streak so far!
But for those who love their softer side, don’t worry. The epic and delicate SODA arrives like a breath of fresh air, a small pause before the vibrant electro-punk Enchant. This is followed by Savior of My Life, where the genre-blending magic happens once again. Then YELLOW brings an epic and emotional pop sound. SHU naturally follows with a gentler tempo and heartfelt tenderness. They wrap it all up with the uplifting pop track See you again, a perfect, warm closing anthem. Enchanting or danceable melodies, heavy basslines, razor-sharp riffs, intricate and deep arrangements… The balance is perfect. The Oral Cigarettes have been generous with AlterGeist0000. A banger album—one of their best!
