Where We Dive has just been released, and with it, Medicis unveils their debut album: mature, elegant, powerful… and explosive! Review.
WHERE WE DIVE – MEDICIS
This is made even more effective by Timecrash, where Medicis allow themselves the space to build a more unsettling atmosphere. Doubt hangs in the air, aligning with the theme: the search for the purpose of life. With a more aggressive sound, Mirrors tells the story of a work of art seeing itself for the first time. This beautiful metaphor for identity is both sharp and electric, borrowing noise elements in its more intense moments. Embers plays with similar textures over a fascinating progression, blending together passion and anxiety. The band then takes a pause with the incredible, delicate, and precise Mercury Leaves. More intimate, this track creates the surprise through its atmosphere and narrative logic, as it harmonises perfectly with the rest, in the middle of the album.
Medicis then shatters the calm they’ve just built with the massive, heavy, and explosive Paralysed, which fights stagnation with its riffs. Impressive and raw, it’s followed by Inner Perception, which continues the story of the artwork and once again reveals a more delicate side of the band. The track gradually transforms to feature resonating solos and sharp textures. Medicis concludes Where We Dive with the tour de force Colors/Monochromes. Lovers of the arts, you will be able to see colours and contrasts through nearly eight minutes of raw sound, contemplation and passion. This debut is a triumph!
