For their debut album, Living Lies Again, the French trio Heavy Crown are going down the deep, epic, and saturated road! Review.
LIVING LIES AGAIN – HEAVY CROWN
Living Lies Again reveals the deep and rich rock of the trio, Heavy Crown. With sound techniques and various influences, the English-singing French band have managed to make their first album a solid foundation for what’s to come. Game is their heavy intro, with stoner and metal influences that invite you to play a dangerous game: jumping into a moshpit of unknown and chaos, at the risk of becoming addicted. It’s on The Messenger that Heavy Crown shows how much they enjoy epicness. Nearly six minutes long, it’s a truly intriguing journey. Its different layers and arrangements are perfect storytellers. They naturally follow with Leave It To Me. They aren’t afraid to take on a rap flow that really hits the mark. More influences, then!
(Can’t Let You) Die On Me takes on emo-pop tones. Then Sometimes offers even heavier sounds, for an intoxicating and memorable vibe. Flesh is clearer, more pop, and also more rap, continuing to convey the effects of the particular atmosphere the band’s been building throughout the album. Another Way gets lost in toxic, epic, and sensual vertigo, emphasised by its tempo and dizzying synth variations. Punk and direct, they then deliver raw and infectious energy with Not In My Head – it’s less polished, certainly, but still as fluid. Around The Corner provides another strong hook, and, with its dark aura, it ranks among the best tracks on the album.
It’s with Get It Out, bittersweet with its high-potential anthemic melody and more laid-back tempo, that the band finishes this debut album. Deep bass – which sound is split to add abyssal layers over powerful guitar riffs – explosive and precise drums, laid-back vocals, and just the right balance. Textures played on Living Lies Again give Heavy Crown a wonderful sound power. Finishing touches have received the attention they deserve, even though some tracks retain a raw and natural sound. The whole album is hyper-coherent, emotional, and alive. You can feel their passion, and you can’t help but reciprocate. A very promising debut album for the modern rock scene!
