For his fifth solo album, Whose Blue, TK From Ling Tosite Sigure has looked for all kinds of blue, from the darkest and angriest to the softest and most personal. Review.
WHOSE BLUE – TK FROM LING TOSITE SIGURE
The artist still kicks it off with a huge banger, infused with modern rock and glimmers of hardcore for a perfectly catchy tune: first death. This version, Devils from Chainsaw edition, barely strays from the original released in 2022, keeping up its brightness and powerful aura. Next, with an impressive opening riff, is Synchrome, a duet with singer suis from Yorushika. The orchestra adds some contrast and highlights how much TK loves classical tunes that give so many layers to his work. Flowing naturally is the emotional track Taga tame, between full destruction, chaos and bright purity… This epic song is followed by poppier, upbeat and saturated Kujakuja no maamu aia – loved it! But if you’re looking for layers of mixed electro and hardcore, UN-APEX has your back. It gives its all in verses and bridges for a more conventional yet gripping chorus.
TK then shows his softer side, first with orbit, vaporous even when shards of metal are ringing in, and pushing an epic orchestral progression, and then with the explorative and instrumental pop GRANT. A second duet comes up, with Koshi Inaba, for Scratch, which carries similar delicate textures until its unsettling and impressive solo. There, again, TK’s universe proves its vast and always vulnerable in some ways. Microwaver turns on the banger-making-machine once more before we get wrapped up in demure and intricate magic with musique. Whose World? Whose Blue? is the grand finale, explosive and packed with emotion, and precedes the instrumental end-credit, the dream-like conclusion, ephemeral mist. TK From Ling Tosite Sigure holds a complete, harmonious and captivating album with Whose Blue, thanks to both its liveliest and softest energy.
