PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2025 #37

It’s cold and I’m ill, but the playlist of the week is here, full of incredible artists and loads of new favourites.

I’ll be honest, I’m writing the playlist this week with a blocked nose and a burning throat. But my ears are doing fine and the punk riffs I’ve chosen are helping. So we’re opening with Àkila and her biting, menacing afrobeat-punk blend on Os Vampiros. Bam! Massive favourite! And I’m following that up with another one from Enfants and their new single Punk Head, with equally electric riffs and an explosive chorus. Poor Bambi keeps the same tone with the vibrant Business or Pleasure. It’s hard not to give in to such cleverly channelled energy. The dots on the i’s are sorted, now for the crosses on the t’s. Violent Sadie Mode takes care of that with raw textures on the furious 1 Condition 0 Conversation.

We carry on with more punk gems with The Rat Utopia Experiment grinding out a few riffs on the cathartic Creature Comfort. For Girl Tones, it’s also time to let go a bit through the super catchy and totally vibrant Burnout that follows. Things take a turn with April Again who brings Circles, sharp and radiant but this time a bit calmer, a bit less punk, but just as deep. With an even more pop-leaning sound, we discover the intoxicating Look What You Did by Jeen, absolutely addictive!

Pop elements linger too in the beautiful Cross Your Heart, mixing electric nostalgia with bittersweet softness, by Momma. We get shaken up again, this time by Projector with the short but intense Hope Springs Eternal, whose sound also carries something very 90s. Messir bursts in with a stoner vibe influenced by other rock from that era and the result is the unmissable Idolatress. Finally, we wrap up the playlist of the week with a track that contrasts quite a bit with the rest, as Communication by Tiny Vessels leans more towards sunny pop-rock. And I love it! With all that, I’m off to take care of myself!
