For his second EP, Roman Ausen offers a logical continuation, an end of a chapter and the beginning of another in his technique, with Night Tracks II. Review.

NIGHT TRACKS II – ROMAN AUSEN

The second part of the night is beautiful and gentle, and Roman Ausen once again signs the soundtrack with this new EP, Night Tracks II. A logical follow-up to his very first EP released last year, this one is also a way of elegantly closing a chapter. And yet, before moving on to something else, a something else much awaited and eager to be revealed, Roman Ausen unveils tracks with a youthful soul and mature technique. You can feel it: the sound is even more refined than in the already superb Night Tracks.

Musically, we’re still immersed in vibes somewhere between disco and funk, with a touch of city pop that radiates warmth. The night, in his hands, has a heart that glows with a soft light on After Midnight, a title that feels self-evident. On the sensual Borderline, the heat rises through lacy and ever-sparkling musical entanglements. It’s clear that, in a short time, the artist has grown in his style, in his composition, while maintaining an elegance and a certain accessibility.

Soft Play is the third track on this EP, and here, Roman Ausen doesn’t hesitate to awaken all his 80s pop inspirations. Much more vintage than what I usually highlight, it fits perfectly into the narrative of his early catalogue. Night Tracks II ends with Everybody Here Wants You, where Roman Ausen brings out a truly beautiful bass line. The lights of early morning seem to appear on the horizon as the tenderness of his chords plays out. This chapter is closed. What comes next is intriguing. This EP? Bright.
