It’s hard for us to choose which of these three records we like most. In the new releases of the day, we went for the contrasted ones. A lot of dark themes are floating around. The shapes they take are magnificent and surprising. Flashes.
FIX YOURSELF, NOT THE WORLD – THE WOMBATS
If This Car Drives All by Itself is super catchy, we’re focusing on the rest of the record. Something else grabbed our attention. One of The Wombats’ new tracks is speaking to us a lot: the complex Method To The Madness really nails it. Pop and colourful in its shape, everything from Fix Yourself, Not The World is easing the wounds caused by introspection, necessary for change and carried by time (People Don’t Change, Time Does) with dark themes (Everything I Love Is Going To Die, Worry) to which we identify strongly. Our heads are flipped upside down by the record… and therefore listen to Flip Me Upside Down on repeat.

GHOSTS ON TAPE – BLOOD RED SHOES
Blood Red Shoes delivers today what could be the perfect soundtrack to a horror/fantastic thriller. There’s something mystical when we listen to Ghosts On Tape. Give Up has something cold, worrying. Sucker is a lot more charming and sensual. And Comply is the perfect opening for a ghost hunt. And these spirits are strong-minded. They are looking at us and singing, only showing themselves in the notes and rhythms found in music. These ghosts are the darkest feelings, thoughts, and passions the band has. Others would have kept them silent. Here, it gives us a fascinating and unsettling record. A strange and sombre success.

ARE WE GONNA BE ALRIGHT? – FICKLE FRIENDS
As inspired by electro-pop as they are by punk rock, Fickle Friends are getting wild on their new record Are We Gonna Be Alright?. It’s a DIY spirit that picks a lot from the mainstream radio sounds. It works. A lot. If many tracks are only gently making in us shaking our heads, others are making us jump up and down from start to finish: Yeah Yeah Yeah. Joys and sorrows are the core of this new album, and like many, anxiety is lurking in the shadow. To beat it, Fickle Friends tackles it, talks about it, and warps it up into badass riffs and catchy tunes to get obsessed by.
