Van Tastik - Church of Fallen Reverend - Review
The church of the fallen reverend has opened its doors – Van Tastik, in their black clothes, welcomes wandering souls on their pilgrimage… to a sinful place: review.
CHURCH OF THE FALLEN REVEREND – VAN TASTIK
Powerful riffs, a blues-rock hinted with punk, a fantastically ravishing voice…
Church of the Fallen Reverend is an album for rock lovers and guitar worshippers. The blues sounds seem to be coming directly from the USA, but it’s certainly not without a deviation through Hell that Van Tastik has been able to find them. The opening Ain’t No Man With Money is a track to play over and over again – vivid, and deep, the first riffs really caught my attention. Death Letter Blues and Death Come and Get Me are two songs where Van Tastik flirts with death. It sends a chill down my spine… but quickly, warmth is coming back, certainly coming from Hell and canalized by Drag Me to Hell, which has massive live potential, and the hot Tell Me if You Want Me. An incredible track, really. Ironically, Fire is softer and colder, but as captivating as the surrounding flames.
Before leaving, the fallen reverend, on stage, would say ‘May Darkness be with you’ – and that just before the last blow, the last enthralling song, Don’t Leave Me For Valentine’s Day. There, Van Tastik offers their voice, no guitars, and rallies the last sceptical beings of the assembly to their church. This record is a true masterpiece.
