Harmonica Lewinski is, besides the excellent pun, a band with psyche surf rock influences that, through their album Hot Stuff, propose a cinematic journey. Review.
HOT STUFF – HARMONICA LEWINSKI
I don’t need to wait long to get a hold of their vocals. The nonchalant New Magic is in charge of those, swiftly followed by the relaxed Penny Saver Blues. They have, indeed, a lot more blues than their opening, but it is equally charming. Dirty Details, a short instrumental and intoxicating break, lets the kind energy and the beautiful bass lines of Shadow Sequence in. Smoke Signals and Habits seem to stop time with their roundness. Ideally placed in the middle of the record, I go back to them a lot.
The trip continues in a nice club where Boogie Tonight plays at the loudest possible volume. Cakewalk and Baja Rosa then play back-to-back, amplifying their Nouvelle Vague vibe. Lucky Strike is, to me, the most addictive track of Hot Stuff – and it’s quite the statement as the whole record can create a strong dependency. The credits roll and Harmonica Lewinski closes Hot Stuff with Kiss of Aquarius, a touch of nostalgia in their guitars. A journey I’ll go through again.
