PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #7

An emotionally packed week calls for a charged-up playlist. Here’s the selection for this week. Handle these changing atmospheres with care.

This week, the playlist opens with a favourite: the nostalgic yet bright JEEN’s Pour Your Heart. It’s quite easy to do so in her notes. Similarly, Precious Lie by Shkoun bears some magic in its core. With a vintage touch and backing vocals, it’s all very catchy. The overall idea stays pretty dark here though, so time to get some light into it. Gradually, we get there with The Monster, by Westfalia, acting as the bridge between the concepts through a mysterious aura and an electronic texture. And we slide on the dancefloor with Oli Barton’s contrasted It’s Over Now.

With the same energy and a touch of insouciance, Abbey Moon plays Classics and invites us to remember ours. It’s fresh and radiant. Next, with the same light, Creature Canyon gets empathetic and tender on Holding On. The hyper-catchy guitar of Pioneers on Old Ways comes in as a natural follow-up. Gradually, we get back to a colder, but still intense, ambience. The Orange Cave with the gentle Jungle Island is reassuring, peaceful and colourful, another great bridge to the last part of the playlist.

Here, the coldest notes of Aqualine grow bigger on No Answer. Then, we reach another favourite of the week with the intoxicating pop by Sir Romy with Blackout. The vocals are simply phenomenal here. Next, Découpées by Dynah is remarkable and superb. With a radiant production and vocals that cut the lyrics rightfully, it’s an electro-pop hymn to feminine bodies. Last, but not least, it’s up to Bonbon Noir to close the playlist with their epic, intriguing and dark KISS ME KILL ME.
