Cabin crew, arm the playlist of the week please… ready to take off. This week, I’m curious, so it’s time to explore very different soundscapes.
To slide in a peaceful and curious instant has never been simpler than with Explorations by Frank Rabeyrolles. The deep bass highlights perfectly the clear tone of the guitar and the special grain of Rabeyrolles’ vocals, here releasing this new track along his new album Minor Blue. It’s the kind of atmosphere that gently heals. With a more scarred sound, Dublin-based band For Nina questions and explores their inner state, through vocals as strong as discreet, and raw riffs on Value. Then, Thérèse brings bits of both previous atmospheres in her immensely personal song, No Right Time. Here, the artist addresses death and her fear of it. On a rhythm as round and deep as the beating of her own heart, Thérèse recalls that fear, that confrontation, that acceptance. Timeless, intimate, unmissable.
Still Corners is back in the playlist too, this week, with a relaxing tune: The Dream. The awakenings of guitars go on, along with the exploration we started, with New York Arizona and This by Dubinski. The progression is appropriate, and something is motivating in this nonchalance. More pop, and with a touch that reminds me of the 2010s (!), Kite by Swedish phenomenon Benjamin Ingrosso. Bring your best smile here. Now, without slowing the cadence, and with bright guitars again, let’s jump into the upbeat Everything Will Be Okay by ORION 224. Then, getting the next step in, we get the delicate vocals and saturated guitars by S.J. Armstrong on The Morning.
For the last part of the playlist of the week, Timekeeper by Easy Sleeper kind of makes me want to go to the beach. It’s the call for holidays (sure, it’s early). And it’s not Cavalcade with Used to Know Me that will stop it, despite its darker undertones – but still very fresh here. Casino Havana, on the other hand, is pushing up the volume on the amp and sets their song in a beer-smelling rock club. That’s why All For Nothing, from their EP Absent Minded, has become a favourite of mine. Last, but not least, to finish that evening in the aforementioned club, Box Of Trash and their heavy riffs come up with Minnies Haberdashery. You can unbuckle your seatbelts, turbulences are intentional. Where would the fun of exploration be otherwise?
