With Thérèse’s incredible album, L’Attente, I can only accept the invitation to step out of my comfort zone. Never felt so great. Review.
L’ATTENTE – THÉRÈSE
If the anthem Toujours trop is shining as the penultimate track of the record, other tracks are as bright and full of the feminist ideas Thérèse wants to share. Whether it’s women’s rights in general, or more specifically in the music industry, the artist nails it with Industrie BB, featuring Cœur and her phenomenal vocals, No Rules, and the gem Shonen that closes the record. Here, the Shōnen spirit, the one that wants to brave adversity and win it all, grows and fuses with Thérèse breathing. It’s a song that has it all.
Moreover, the artist becomes more vulnerable, reaching the subject of death, her fear of it, but also talking to and with it, writing about the wait for the surgery that would save her life. She speaks up about her anxieties on several tracks: Le Temps, No Right Time (which has shaken and still shakes me), M’Autosaboter with Louisadonna, and L’Attente, leader of the theme. Thérèse also mastered her songwriting in English with the brutally honest Jealous, Butterfly and No Rules. Overall, L’Attente is finely crafted by Thérèse and her freedom. Outstanding and deep, it’s a moving record, engaging and set in real life. In the end, it is because I see in Thérèse another kind of punk that it works so well for me. Spin it on repeat, you won’t regret it. It feels amazing to step out of my comfort zone, to find another.
Thérèse will be at the Maroquinerie in Paris the 12th June.
