Are women future robots? Femegades wonders in their new EP, Sex Robots, as feminist and punk as they could make it! Review.
SEX ROBOTS – FEMEGADES
On No Sex Robots, which is up next, they keep going in the dystopic spirit and propose the idea of a world where women manage to succeed at matching all the standards (even the contradictory ones) they receive daily… all to become the perfect girlfriend – and therefore a robot. Once again, it’s done intelligently, with punchy riffs and a highly catchy chorus. Let’s be honest, we will not become these revolutionary technological beings… and fighting patriarchy is tiring. It’s Toolish that talks about it, adding terror to its fighting spirit and atmosphere.
The EP ends on the gripping Depleted, with lyrics about postpartum depression and feeling alone, and more generally, about another aspect of women’s mental health. The energy doesn’t weaver and, mother or not, the message is relatable. There’s anger in that EP, it’s true, but it comes from a logical and understandable place. Elements that are supposed to be dystopic are actually infiltrating our daily lives, and settling well. So, with Sex Robots, Femegades impress and get their political messages across with captivating riffs. Fantastic!
