Once again, my selection for this week ’s playlist is made of jewels. Emotions, attitude and epic instants are the core of this one!
The scratched riffs of Burning are captivating. 羊文学 (Hitsujibungaku) are back and Moeka Shiotsuka’s vocals bring a peculiar texture to this single created for the well-known anime Oshi No Ko. It’s the opening of this week’s playlist, which should take you places. Following up, Bottlemoth is also full-on with its emotions through the enamoured Tattoo. The duo of vocals and the clarity of arrangements make it all brighter. And Eva Bottega’s vocals, one of the five Ménades, are the same, shining on top of the seductive alt-punk-rock Angels Drive Fast. And in a more old-school way, we get the incredible Casii Stephan with a great cheeky tone on Average Man.
Next stop is Banger-city, with ホムンクルス(Homunculus), a single created for the upcoming film My Hero Academia: You’re Next. It’s Vaundy through and through, with an epic hook, some clear instants, and powerful riffs. And then Insane by Reality Suite keeps the momentum going with a more metal approach, a lot of attitude, and a similar epic form that hits hard! Foxes on the Run, along with CARAVAGGIO, slow down the general atmosphere and get us on our feet for the sunny Prey of Fate. Kojak follow them in their track with a similarly fresh energy on their new track Seasons, also bearing some old-school blues notes.
Gentry Blue changes the tone with Fragments, darker and more direct, but mostly more mysterious. Between the vocals and guitar solos, the band has everything to get out there. Also very convincing, Cilla Tides is pretty threatening in her hypnotic R’n’B-rock Regret This. Coming in contrast is Our Girl with Something About Me Being A Woman – softer in its undertones, some graver riffs still in, but also pretty direct in its lyrics. Lastly, as our playlist of the week closer, we set off to La Réunion island with the impressive, rich, tender and emotional Somin grands bois by Saodaj’. A true gem from the South Hemisphere that you can’t miss!
