PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #41

Friday is here, and of course, so is this week’s playlist! Here’s my selection of twelve tracks you really shouldn’t miss!

Both sexy and unsettling, Turn the Lights Down reveals a new side of Queen Bitch. Always effective, the band tries out different atmospheres, making for a great introduction to this week’s playlist! Back in the City follows seamlessly with Witchcraft, infused with blues and that same comfortable and sensual tension encountered earlier. The Toksin are also back with the powerful GET OUT. The addictive and emotionally charged rhythm should send shivers down your spine! Next up is congratulations with the intoxicating Ice Tea. I don’t know what they’ve put in it, but this track from their new EP is an absolute must!

The haze of riffs in Wonder is particularly welcoming. With some violins and epic solos, this track from MBUR becomes ultra atmospheric and magical. Dark, yet magical. For Forgotten Dream, the magic takes the form of Rose Water. Here, the band questions the paradox of injunctions asking to be yourself. The return to reality keeps going with the angst-ridden TELEVISION by proFESSional. Very cathartic! Then, Cat Ridgeway shifts the idea of anxiety into a breathless, epic intrigue with Epilogue. Its final part is truly dizzying!

Next, we head to the beach with some devilishly chill and effective disco-infused pop-rock. Bad Bad Man by Walter The Producer is an unmissable gem of the genre. More upbeat, we move on to the bop Sometimes by Spelim. This new little favourite of mine has me straying from my usual genres, bringing in plenty of freshness and sunshine right from the first listen. Also very refreshing, Bang by Ziyad Al-Samman is epic, adventurous, and easy to put on the dancefloor. The balance is superb! Finally, this week’s playlist ends with 8e jour by TODEM. Once again, tender, love-filled rhythms are here, ready to be discovered.
