The French band Little Odetta is back, guitars at the forefront, with their powerful second album, Little Bit of Soul. Review.
LITTLE BIT OF SOUL – LITTLE ODETTA
While these first three tracks make you eager to dive in, with a confident and adventurous attitude, there are darker, more anxious moments on the album. Little Bit of Soul, with its rolling, deep riffs, rages against the smoke of screens and hyperconnectivity in a dehumanised world. Leave Me Alone addresses toxic and dangerous relationships, with a sober intro followed by an explosive, liberating chorus. Despite this, the rest of the album remains highly motivating and upbeat, with another ballad offering an escape from the claws of the past and anxiety. Blending gospel with classic folk-rock, Take You Away resonates and invites you to break free. As for 2045, it’s a call to live authentically, shining through its sharp riffs.
Storms can be a good thing, as shown by the hypnotic Struck. The message: give love at first sight a chance. Love is another recurring theme on this album. Drive Me Mad, Hell Come Running, and Sweet Release carry this theme through to the album’s end. Overall, Little Bit of Soul is a brilliant affirmation of Little Odetta’s style – a classic, free rock that draws from and explores other genres without compromising its essence. A successful, confident, and devastating second album!
