PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #5

It’s the first playlist of the week of February 2024. There’s some catching up to do and new tunes to grab. Here’s my selection of cool tracks.

Let’s start the playlist of the week with the awaited and flamboyant comeback of The Howlers with the groovy Lady Luck, first single of their debut album, What You’ve Got To Lose To Win It All, to be released in May. Incredible! Then, Mannequin Death Squad is grabbing us by the shirt with Everybody’s Moving. You’ll get the hard rock motivation you need here. With the same idea, with a lot more blues, Little Odetta is back with Struck, an extract from their upcoming album. Between classical harmonies and powerful guitars, it’s pretty solid. Later, Devon More sings an ode to her body on My Body Is. – it’s inspiring, body-positive, and charming.

With The Padres, there’s a strange feel of hospitality and reject cleverly built and mixed in Where Nothing Happens All The Time. It’s darker than the rest, but also hypnotic. Bringing colour, there is Kojak with Midnight, perfect for a mind-emptying stroll any time of the day. Killer’s Kiss by The Devils rolls in with a lot of texture, something dirty I adore. Devon Thompson is close behind them with the quieter rock, annoyed romantic, on I Love You But It Hurts Like Hell. Effective, clean.

The approach chosen by Gabrielle Ornate is a bit more electro, with assumed effects on the vocals and some heavy and dirty riffs on Enchantress of Sound. On the pop side of things, it’s the warmth of Say My Name, a new track by Maria Rosenberg, enveloping, soothing, and fascinating. It’s a pleasure to discover such a peculiar voice here, too. Following closing is the comeback of Ponte Pilas with Too Much Scenery, and I can’t stay still – and I’d like to see you try too, it’s near impossible. The playlist of the week closes on the wild and as irresistible Home Team by Everyday Dogs.
