This week, the playlist is diverse and made of wonderful tunes. Without further ado, let’s jump right in!
Back with her flow and fighting spirit, Delilah Bon defends women and LGBTQIA+ folks in the venomous and catchy Evil, Hate Filled Female. It starts the playlist of the week powerfully. PAVÉ follows with their own bite on THE END OF US, an unmissable between metal and modern rock. On the classic side, and fascinating too, King Black Acid calms the energy progressively with the memorable There’s a Spirit Moving in Your House. Some riffs then get into a relentless groove on Hamish Hawk’s Big Cat Tattoos. Four different atmospheres that actually follow each other seamlessly.
Up next is Baula with a vaporous and charming heaven knows. It’s hard not to melt for these enchanting vocals! On the pop and romantic side of things, Cody・Lee(李) has released 生活 (Living). A touch of softness, a slice of life in the heart of Tokyo, beautiful, marking the halfway point of the playlist. The French singer Sir Romy is also playing with pop music, but in a much hotter way. She adds a nice dash of soul and some sharp riffs for the sublime They Scream. Then, Slogan shows their embarrassment as their singer, Nicolas, seems to be confused with Julien Doré… so they make a song of it, with humour, a catchy tune and a fantastic bass line. It’s called Julien, and it’s an excellent one!
Legendary American rock band Nada Surf is back with some cool pop-rock riffs that ought not to be missed on In Front of Me Now. They’re followed closely by The Newks, and their folk inspirations on Certified Mess – just enough to make us smile. And The Darwins keep going, inviting us to stop overthinking about potential regrets on Tomorrow’s Problem. Some glimmering riffs to live in the present. Wu-Lu is the one closing this week’s playlist with a deeper tone, that’s still soothing to me, on Daylight Song.
