PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK 2024 #48

Friday came around quickly! But, as usual, here’s the playlist of the week—slightly jet-lagged, let’s be honest—but well-seasoned, just the way I like it!

Back from the other side of the world, I’m in the mood to dive right in with sharp riffs that pack a punch. We’re starting with hit-makers! First up is Baby Said, with the catchy and cheeky Hate Me, which hasn’t left my head and absolutely delivers—brilliant! They’re followed by Tip Stevens, who kicks down the door with Knock Knock, a preview of his upcoming EP. More on that soon! Skinner keeps the tone gritty with his sharp punk track Calling In Sick—definitely one of the must-watch artists in the genre right now! Right after that, it’s all about parties, snapshots, and big riffs with the explosive Modèle by Mauvais Sang. It’s ultra-catchy!

Let’s keep the energy high, switching gears to something even stickier with Cherry Red by Charm School, really effective. Next up is Rhagofn from MOLETRAP, blending airy verses with choruses that hit like an earthquake! Then, we get a slight change of pace with the return of Casino Havana, offering textured chords and a more laid-back rhythm on Black & White Love. Also making a comeback on the blog are Maudlin Strangers, delivering the cool, mesmerising and a bit softer Under My Skin. Here, the effects on the vocals add a lush texture to the track.

For the final part of this playlist of the week, Lucciana Costa keeps dialing down the saturation with the tender, yet pretty epic too, Hunger—an absolute gem. Michael Kantor also plays with surprises as he uses contrasts in the captivating All Sorts of Lies. Then, as always, Bad Flamingo enchant us with their desert-infused, mysterious sound on The Devil Knows. The playlist wraps up with soft rock and a stellar voice, courtesy of CESIE and the fantastic discovery Are You Near. Another great find!
