The playlist of the week travels to all corners of the world and comes back with a fresh dose of new music! Let’s go!
I find it truly difficult to resist the worlds Kenshi Yonezu creates in each of his tracks. Proof of this is his recent, though not latest, single Plazma, which has me hooked. His voice carries a perfectly catchy melody over a sleek yet semi-chaotic electro-pop backdrop—another hit for him, accompanied by a striking video. And that’s how the playlist begins this week.
He is followed by the equally addictive SATOH with their new single MONA LISA. Here, sharp electro beats are paired with a punk spirit. Even more punk, and still fresh, MAN WITH A MISSION celebrate their 15th anniversary with the powerful and epic REACHING FOR THE SKY. Let’s move elsewhere now! With a foot on each side of the Atlantic, Nico Dey has made the most of his influences. The result is the powerful riffs and melody of Eyes Wide Open, somewhere between stoner and classic rock!
Then comes MAYA with razor-sharp riffs on their new single Charlie. Their British rock has a raw edge that shouldn’t be missed! The tone then lightens with Sugar by Them Elephants. Their pop chorus provides a beautiful contrast to their raw sound. The Criticals follow with flair on their equally effective and melodic Mother of Style, released today. We then discover BACKHOUSE with Key of Orange. More melancholic and dreamlike, thanks to its well-balanced effects, the track brings a touch of softness to the selection.
Sodbo maintains this softness, giving it a folk twist with deep distortions in When I Think of You. Hypnotic, tender, and personal, it pairs perfectly with Foreign Shapes. They also bring strong folk influences to the verses of Sleazy Jet. But beware—the chorus changes everything, and the chills are guaranteed! And it doesn’t stop there, as SEE NIGHT takes us on a ride through LA Traffic. The guitar carries a trembling, emotional voice as it tenderly invokes the light of Los Angeles. But this week, the playlist ends on the East Coast of the United States, with the dark, dramatic, and mesmerising Too Long in Brooklyn. Created by Slow Code in collaboration with Pussy Tundra, it’s nothing short of breathtaking.
