Political, romantic, spiritual, or internal battles, our playlist this week takes us through all kinds of emotions. Let’s go!
Izzy T releases a feminist political cry with Crime Scene, caught between despair over lost freedoms and a fierce desire to fight back. Musically, this is reflected in both her impressive voice and her riffs. The key theme that kicks off the playlist of the week is resilience. Or a punch to the gut. That’s why we follow with Mey and her fantastic, free, and confident Not For Sale. The layers of arrangements and the breathless progression make it absolutely captivating! Then, with some heavier, more classic riffs (at least within their genre), we find The Hives playing the antagonists with their new single Enough Is Enough. They bring the ring up… and the impossibility to shake off their chorus! With so much energy expended, you might drown… Enter SEX SHOP MUSHROOMS with Submerged, adding a darker, punk-metal vibe to the mix.
Next, we head to the dancefloor to let it all go. It’s up to no drinks on the dancefloor to greet us with Needle in a Haystack and its powerful, effective riffs. Clearly promising! Ledher Blue follows with Sorrows of Amended Hearts. The duo, from Ireland and Portugal, charge ahead with a rock sound that’s both sunny and sincere, full of contagious energy! The Beaches decides to keep the party going, dragging it onto an 80s beach, arriving fashionably late with Last Girls at the Party. It’s fresh, sexy, and bright! EGOISM continues quite naturally with the tender and summery New Friends, like a sunrise after that unforgettable night.
Then comes a deep dive into a unique blend of genres, woven with a dark thread where the abyss meets the light, with ESAGRAMMA 47 from the industrial trip-hop band POLISTIRENE. With GRIDOUT by yama, we switch to a Jpop full of flashing textures, with as many beautiful rounded riffs as well-thought-out electro layers. Marlene Larsen follows with the soft, romantic, and introspective Coming Clean, whose chorus hovers between earth and sky, between anxiety and forgiveness. Sublime! But to close the playlist this week, it’s a tribute I’ve chosen. The one made by Cheeko for Nâaman, whose recent passing left us speechless. We think of him and his loved ones through Jamais Né, Jamais Mort. The lyrics and flow go straight to the heart, and then we can pick up the fight, the march, the journey ahead.
