Do you want some more bangers? The playlist of the week is here, ready to push you through thousands of emotions! Let’s go!
We’re kicking it off with an absolute new favourite of mine, by Korean bad KARDI: their amazing Not But Disco. Its powerful riffs and clear vocals blend pop, rock, traditional instruments and just the right amount of funk together. Because I love that kind of riffs, I couldn’t resist to share the excellent Archbishop Harold Holmes by Jack White either. Taken from his latest album No Name, it’s a biting one that gets a pretty cool video too! We keep going with strong riffs, here leaning towards pop-punk with OOAK by the Japanese quartet NEK!. Of course, I love it and urge you to add it to your own playlists! Even more punk, Sexfaces jumps in with Feed Machine. Raw and cathartic, it’s taken from their album BAD VIBES OST and is, indeed, a perfect soundtrack to our bad actions.
The rage and bite hit different for open bar by the great copycat. Through this poppier anthem, the band shares their strength to all women who’ve been harassed on their night out. Then, a different kind of anxiety shows up. It’s one coming from overly complicated relationships and mind games that shines in the nostalgic Chess Game by Vera Daisies. Her fresh pop-punk vibe beautifully highlights her delicate vocals and make me curious! Up next is the dark shadows of GHOSTWOMAN with their song Alive. Like a stained polaroid we can only live, this track contains hope and unhealed scars. Let’s keep some classic roots too, leaning towards blues though, with The Black Keys. They’re already back with Man On A Mission, rolling easy and piquing my appetite for their upcoming album!
The playlist of the week ends on some more serious notes. First, with No Joy by The Beths, which touches on depression and lack of happiness on a catchy, dynamic and colourful backdrop. Send Me Love Letters, on the other hand, goes darker and sings about suicide with elegance and respect on Sweet Living. The track is impressive through its technic, sensibility and depth.
With a pretty solemn tone too, let’s talk about Pride. This instant of joy and celebration of identity can’t be dissociated from politics. And Dressed Like Boys goes there with their sublime tribute song Stonewall Riots Forever. With a delicate piano, the portraits of these legendary women are painted reverently, and it’s sublime. For the last song, we keep softness with La Nouvelle Musique. Their duet has enchanted me thanks to ethereal vocals on The Mirror, getting me out of my comfort zone with a smile.
