What wouldn’t we do to discover and listen to new albums? After battling furiously with my email box and internet browsers, here are our flashes for this New Music Friday.
OH ! – EZECHIEL PAILHÈS
It is with a voice almost as iconic as Gainsbourg’s or Baschung’s that Ezechiel Pailhès becomes an ambassador of the realm of dreams through his new album, Oh!. With an electro filled with great and surprising inspirations, he gets behind the wheel and takes us in a vaporous world. Jazz, R’n’B, soul, rock, we get a shot of everything with softness, respect and plenty of French lyrics. J’avais froid, Cakewalk, Constellation or J’aimerais tant, every track gives us goosebumps. Oh! That’s exactly what this opus is making us say. Released today.
LONG ISLAND – SWAN MELANI
Speaking of dreams, Swan Melani is offering a great one with Long Island. Like a contemplative walk through dark space, immense oceans or deserts, depending on what the listener prefers, this EP has the mark of Morpheus. Volutes of colours are getting out of notes on Last Subway, Long Island and Apocalyptic Buddy. These three tracks transport us into the unknown in about fifteen minutes. Unknown, darkness, mysterious… we can’t escape it and we let it take space and time to reach every corner of the room. Released today.
A STEADY DRIP, DRIP, DRIP – SPARKS
Let’s now turn toward technicolour dreams. We weren’t expecting any less from cult band Sparks. The high contrast of the colours on the dark background, the cover is a great translation of the tracks. This new album A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip is full of optimism, dancing, weird stuff and flamboyance. We get their never matched strange form of humour, and we love them. Left Out In The Cold and its weird feel between angst and motivation is addictive and crazy. The Americans have, as always, a lot to show and in about an hour, we go from laughter to tears and never lose touch of the passion sparked by their creations.
